Arsovska from the summit in Sofia: A united regional market is our future

May 18, 2018, Sofia, Bulgaria - Implementing economic reforms to attract investments, support for projects that will improve transport and energy infrastructure, opportunities to increase funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Western Balkans, unification of countries from the region, greater cooperation between governments and businessmen as well as joint investments in the function of growth and stability is the focus of the economic segment of the Summit EU Western Balkans Sofia 2018, said the President of Macedonian Chamber of Commerce (MCC), Danela Arsovska that in his speech Following the opening of the Vienna Economic Forum last night stressed the importance of implementation of economic reforms in Macedonia in the process of approaching the European Union. The Economic Forum continues today with the participation of the prime ministers of the countries of the Western Balkans.

"The implementation of economic reforms in the country with the priority of regulatory reform, reforms in the energy and transport market, reduction of the informal economy and functioning of the market as well as consistency of the policies, the rule of law for attracting and retaining investors are the priorities that mean joint work on all important stakeholders in society as key to achieving economic growth, competitiveness and a better standard of living. We need to use the available funds to build a strong economic network with the Western Blakan as a unified market that will strengthen the region and bring it closer to the EU, "Arsovska said.

The European Union, in consultation with the Western Balkan countries, adopted a declaration of 17 points at the EU-Western Balkans summit. In line with the document, the EU reaffirmed support for the European perspective in the Western Balkans and expressed its determination to strengthen its involvement at all levels to support the political, economic and social transformation of the region. Among other things, the declaration says that the EU is committed to significantly boosting connectivity in the transport, energy, digital and economic spheres, adding that the EU agrees to promote a favorable market and investment environment in the Western Balkans in order to move faster to the digital economy and to sustainable societies that respect the climate provisions in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

The President of the Chamber Arsovska, heads the business delegation of the Republic of Macedonia, which is the largest of the Western Balkan countries, with a traditional participation at the EU-Western Balkans Summit. She is a special guest at the Vienna Economic Forum under the auspices of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The summit is one of the key events during the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the European Union, which connects all 28 heads of state or government of the EU with the prime ministers of the Western Balkans. The aim of the Vienna Economic Forum is to build a bridge between the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the next Austrian Presidency with the European Council.
